Gift of Books to Characato School Library
One of Program for a Better Peru's primary goals is to support educational opportunities for Peruvian children. Rural schools, in particular, often suffer from a lack of funding. In late August our volunteers met with Francisco Zegarra, director of the San Juan Bautista school in Characato, to discuss the state of his school's library.
Mr. Zegarra informed us that his school simply does not have enough money to purchase many books needed by its students. With his help we drafted a list of needed texts, which we then purchased and donated to the school. We donated the following books:
- Four dictionaries
- Two encyclopedias
- Books of short stories
- Other works of fiction and poetry
- Books about general culture
- Art and drawing books
- Assorted textbooks
In total we donated 86 books, as well as a new bookshelf to house them.
