Family Sponsorship

Our generous donors often express a wish to help individual families through either food or clothing donations. As a result we have created a new "Family Sponsorship Program."

Our volunteers interviewed families in the village of 28 de Julio, near Characato, to select a needy family for sponsorship. We chose to sponsor the family of Justina Flores Mendoza. Justina is a single mother with eight children whose ages range from 2 months to 20 years. The six youngest children live with Justina in the house shown below.

Sponsored Family House

This family lives in extreme poverty in a dwelling protected from the elements only by thin plastic sheeting. Justina struggles to provide enough food for her children. In mid-June we donated the following items to Justina and her children:

  • 20 kg of sugar
  • 15 kg of rice
  • Toilet paper
  • Detergent
  • 12 cans of evaporated milk
  • 10 kg of dried noodles
  • 12 cans of tuna
  • 4 kg of beans
  • Lentils, corn, and flour
  • Soap and other household products

We hope to continue our relationship with Justina and her family in the future, perhaps through further donations, micro loans, or educational programs that will benefit all the children of this village.
